Hotel Construction Booming, Indy Area Reaps Growth

Last updated on Monday, April 14, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Despite the shaky economy, hotel construction is booming across the United States, and Indianapolis is no exception.

Bob Schultz, spokesman for the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, says hotel construction here is very strong. He says the strong growth is driven by the expansion of our convention center, as well as the new terminal that will open up out at Indianapolis International Airport later this year.

The new 1,000-room JW Marriot Hotel is expected to open downtown in early 2011, and four smaller hotels will open before then.

Hotels are going up not only at the new airport on the city's west side, but also along the exits of Interstate 70, which will funnel motorists to the new terminal.
