(MERRILLVILLE) - Lake County could become home to the first American facility to convert garbage to ethanol fuel.
The county's solid waste management district has voted to open contract talks with Indiana Ethanol Power on where to put the plant. It expects a final deal by May.
IEP says it can convert three-million pounds of trash a day into 55,000 gallons of fuel.
