(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new global volunteer initiative is underway at Eli Lilly.

Some 40,000 Lilly employees across the globe will lend a hand to various charities on May 15th. Sherrie Bossung with Lilly says while they've always been involved in the local community, this is a push to get more of their workers to step outside of the office and give back.

Bossung says the goal is to start when the sun comes up in the east in Asia, with Lilly workers on that continent kicking off the day of service. The day will include a walk for the Lilly MDR-TB partnership, which raises money to fight a rare strain of tuberculosis.

In Indianapolis, Lilly works with the United Way of Central Indiana and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
