(INDIANAPOLIS) - Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman gave a boost to a program that helps Hoosiers cut heating costs, and supports local business.

At the Water Furnace International headquarters in Fort Wayne, the Bedford politician said more than $300,000 worth of rebates are still available for Hoosiers wanting to upgrade their heating and cooling systems to a geothermal system.

In short, geothermal energy is the energy the earth produces on its own, and using it in your own home doesn't require creating energy to heat your home, or burning energy to cool it in the summer, rather it just pumps water through an underground system to transfer already-existing energy in the earth to or from your home as needed.

Governor Skillman said rebates as high as $2,000 are available for Hoosiers to make the switch, and those rebates will be around until the full $500,000 piggy bank is spent.
