Researcher Predicts Retail Rise This Holiday Season

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - The Purdue Retail Institute predicts retail sales will rise about four-percent this holiday season from last year’s levels.
But researcher Richard Feinberg tells Inside Indiana Business that higher gas and heating oil costs will limit holiday spending. He says for every dollar spent on fuel, one dollar less is spent on the holiday.
Feinberg estimates retail holiday sales in the United States will be 475-billion to 500-billion dollars this year.
