UAW And Ford To Settle New Contract
(UNDATED) - Now that GM and Chrysler have settled new contracts with the United Auto Workers, the UAW is turning its attention to Ford.
Ford employs 18-hundred workers in Indianapolis through its ach subsidiary.
The automaker lost 13-billion dollars last year, and has already announced plans to cut 45-thousand jobs. Land Rover North America founding CEO Charlie Hughes tells Network Indiana the company's fragile finances may make a deal easier.
By saving the ford negotiations for last, Hughes says the UAW positions itself to give plant-by-plant concessions on local work rules, in recognition of Ford's fragile balance sheet, without sparking demands for similar givebacks at GM and Chrysler.
