(UNDATED) - American Electric Power has agreed to settle what is being called the largest single environmental settlement in U.S. history.

The company has agreed to reduce air pollutants annually at a cost of 4.6 billion dollars, pay a 15-million dollar penalty and spend 60 million dollars to help alleviate its past excess emissions.

The agreement imposes caps on emissions at 16 plants, including facilities in Rockport and Lawrenceburg.
