(RICHMOND) - A malfunctioning electric motor started last month’s massive fire that destroyed a Richmond plastics company’s four-story warehouse and two other nearby buildings.

Battalion Chief Tom Shook says his investigators found that a motor connected to a hopper and an auger used to move plastics apparently locked up and overheated.

The motor fire than spread throughout the basement of the storage building until it reached the wooden floor above the basement.
