Subaru Celebrates 20 Years In Indiana

(LAFAYETTE) - Subaru of Indiana automotive or SIA celebrating 20 years in Indiana today near Lafayette and the pedal is to the metal.

The automaker is at its highest employment rate ever and the company is still a major driver of the state's economy. Officials say the company has about 33-hundred total jobs at SIA right now.

More than 11-hundred people have been hired since January because of a major partnership with Toyota to make Camry's at the facility. The alliance makes Indiana the only state in the nation with two Toyota manufacturing plants.

Subaru manufactures the Legacy, Outback and Tribeca near Lafayette and the plant will turn out more than 112-thousand Subarus this year.

Fifty-four percent of all Subaru's sold are made at SIA.

Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman will be among those at today's celebration.
