(UNDATED) - Conagra Foods, the parent company for Orville Reddenbacher and Act 2 popcorn brands, announced they will join other producers of microwave popcorn in finding a replacement for the butter flavoring, diacetyl.

The chemical has been linked to pulmonary illnesses among workers in microwave popcorn factories.

Conagra Spokeswoman Stephanie Childs says the company has been aware of the long-term effects of diacetyl for some time and has been working to create a healthier environment for employees.
