(UNDATED) - In an effort to show its continued efforts to help the environment, the president of Kroger Company’s Central Division has purchased reusable shopping bags for its 15,000 associates.

The company launched the reusable bag program statewide in June and Central Division President Bob Moeder says the bags quickly sold out and had to be reordered. Kroger felt it was important to make a statement as a company and wanted every Kroger associate to serve as an example when it comes to protecting the environment.

Moeder tells Inside Indiana Business that the stores are also using energy efficient motors in its refrigeration units, as well as energy efficient light bulbs in its stores. He says as new stores are built, green building technology is being incorporated.
