Ford Offers To Keep Plant Open

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Ford is offering to keep its Indianapolis steering-system plant open an extra two years.
The automaker had announced plans to shut down the plant next year, throwing 1,900 people out of work.
A spokeswoman says Ford has offered the United Auto Workers local an operating agreement that would keep the plant open.
Ford still plans to shut the plant in 2010 no matter what, as it switches to an electronic steering system to be built by an outside contractor.
