(WEST LAFAYETTE) - West Lafayette is rolling out an awareness campaign about its smoke-free workplace ordinance.
The measure bans smoking in most businesses beginning July 1st. TV, radio and newspaper ads will begin this week, touting the change.
Council member Patti O'Callaghan authored the ordinance. She says packets going out to all businesses will help them meet the signage requirements. O'Callaghan says a 100-thousand dollar grant from the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency is covering the campaign material cost and pays for the ads as well.
The city has filed a motion to dismiss the legal challenge filed by a business owner and an employee of a bar. That hearing is set for May 21st.
