Citizens Gas Closing Indy Coke Plant

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Citizens Gas Company says it’s decided to close it’s Southside coke plant after it couldn’t reach an agreement with any potential buyers.
The utility announced a year ago it wanted to sell the plant, and warned employees in February that the plant might close. Citizens Gas CEO Carey Lykins says he was contacted by 20 prospective buyers, but no deals could be reached.
Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson is pledging the city's support for the 300 workers affected by the closing of the Citizens Gas & Coke Utility's Indianapolis Coke Manufacturing Division.
Peterson says he has directed the Indianapolis Private Industry Council to offer job assistance and training programs in an effort to help workers find new employment.
