Next year good for Indiana economics
A Ball State economist is giving his forecast for Indiana for 2006. Patrick Barkey, Director of the Miller College of Business’ Economic and Policy Studies, says he thinks next year will be a good year for the Indiana economy with respectable job growth.
Barkey says the economic landscape is changing from high-paying manufacturing to other types of jobs and services.
He says minimizing job losses in manufacturing will be a key to keeping the state's economy healthy.
Barkey says Indiana is prospering more than other midwest states like Michigan and Ohio.
He says employment here is at levels higher than before the recession hit in the spring of 2001.
The Professor says the main thing Indiana has going for it is the more robust U-S economy.
