Commissioners passed an ordinance to establish Sheriff Sale fees

BEDFORD – On Tuesday the Lawrence County Commissioners passed an ordinance to establish the Sheriff’s sale program and service fees.

According to County Attorney David Smith, according to Indiana statute IC 36-1-3-6, the program and service fees were increased by the state and went into effect in July 2022.

The Sheriff’s Sale Program is approved and established to provide the procedure for the Sheriff to contract needed resources to effectively prepare, manage and implement foreclosure sales.

This ordinance will establish the Sheriff Sale Fund into which all collections of foreclosure cost fees will be deposited and which appropriate expenses will be paid. This fund can only be used for that purpose.

Estimated Costs for Administering Sheriff Sale

  • Contractual Services – $180 per cause number
  • Sheriff’s Cost – $120 per cause number
