Teen arrested after slapping a woman in the face

BEDFORD – A 16-year-old male was arrested after a person came to the Bedford Police Department on Tuesday afternoon to report a domestic fight involving a teen in the 700 block of U Street at 3:39 p.m.

According to Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore, the woman suffered redness, swelling, and pain on the left side of her face.

The woman told police the teen had slapped her in the face. The woman told police she had received a call from the superintendent of Bedford North Lawrence High School, where the teen attends. The superintendent told her the teen had been stealing breakfast and lunch from the school. She told the superintendent that she had provided the teen $25 each week for lunch. The teen’s backpack was also searched by the school principal and a syringe and cotton ball were found in the backpack.

The woman told police after that conversation she went about her day and went to her sister’s house to do yard work. The teen helps the woman do the yard work and earns $20.

The woman’s husband picked up the teen after school and dropped him off at the sister’s house to work. When he arrived the woman questioned him about the incidents reported by school officials. The teen told the woman he did not know “who the syringe belonged to and where the cotton ball came from.”

The teen then got “mouthy” with the woman and stated he was going to take a walk. But the woman told him to get in the vehicle and she would take him home.

While in the vehicle, the teen was vocal and then reached over from the passenger seat and slapped her in the face. She told the teen “she was going to the police station because you are not going to beat on me”.

The teen was detained. Lawrence County Probation was contacted and the teen was issued a summons to appear in court on Wednesday, October 12 on a charge of domestic battery and released to his mother.
