Traffic stop for expired license plate leads to arrest for possession of meth and marijuana

SPENCER COUNTY – On June 16, 2022, an Indiana State Police Trooper, along with a Spencer County Sheriffs Deputy, conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford Edge for an expired license plate violation.

Troopers then spoke to the driver, Jonathon Hall from Louisville KY, and found that Hall only possessed a learner’s permit to drive. The passenger, George Verner from Louisville KY, was found to also only possess a learner’s permit to drive.

Due to the expired license plate and no valid driver, the vehicle was towed. During inventory of the vehicle, officers found a plastic bag containing a crystal substance that contained 504 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine and a jar containing marijuana.

Both Hall and Verner were then taken into custody and transported to Spencer County Jail and charged with dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of marijuana.
