Lock your gas tanks or park in the garage to avoid finding an empty tank

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield Police Department is warning its residents about an increase in gas thefts.

Thieves are siphoning gas from vehicles, according to police, and stealing gas cans that are left outside or in unlocked buildings.

Police say with gas prices over $5 this could happen anywhere.

Police say you should park your vehicles in a garage – if you have one, if not invest in a locking fuel cap which is normally under $20.
