Indiana State Police investigating the death of an inmate at Tippecanoe County Jail

TIPPECANOE CO. – This morning, the Indiana State Police was requested by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the death of an inmate at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

A preliminary investigation indicated that just after 2:00 a.m., jail staff located a male inmate unresponsive in his holding cell. Jail staff immediately began to render medical aid and requested EMS. Despite life-saving efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tippecanoe County Coroner. At the time the inmate was located, he was being housed with two other male inmates.

This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post. The name of the deceased will be released by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office. 

Detectives from the Lafayette Post are being assisted by Indiana State Police CSI, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, and Tippecanoe County Coroner’s office.

There is no further information to release at this time.
