BNL’s Thompson qualifies for state in 300

BNL’s Zane Thompson qualified for the state meet in the 300 hurdles during the IHSAA regional at Bloomington North on Thursday.

BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Zane Thompson blazed to second place in the 300 meter hurdles while earning an invitation to the IHSAA state championships during the boys track regional at Bloomington North on Thursday night.

Thompson, a state finalist last season, crossed the line in 39.92 seconds, with Bloomington North’s Broc Murphy winning the race in 39.61. The top three in each event qualified for the state meet at Indiana University on June 4.

BNL finished 13th in the team competition with 16 points. Bloomington North won the team title with 117 points.

Other competitors for the Stars included Carter Kimmel (fourth in the discus with a throw of 149-5), Noah Carter (9th in the 110 high hurdles in 15.98 and 11th in the 300 hurdles in 43.69), Brayden Patterson (14th in the high jump at 5-10), Coleton Sears (9th in 19-9 1/4) and Thompson (14th in the 100 in 11.93).

BNL also raced in three relays. The Stars were 8th in the 3200 (Cameron Haste, Karter West, Carson Kelly and Jonah Bailey in 8:47.56), 7th in the 400 (Christian Garciano-Curren, Cole Baker, Maddex McFarland and Thompson in 44.85) and 14th in the 1600 (Baker, Tyson Patterson, Ruel Steele and Carter in 3:50.38).
