Bloomington man dies from gunshot wounds

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Police Department is investigating a homicide.

On Wednesday, May 25th at approximately 5:55 a.m., Bloomington Police officers responded to the 700 block of South Clarizz Boulevard in reference to numerous 911 calls reporting multiple shots fired in the area. Responding officers were initially unable to locate any crime scene or any victims.

Officers spoke with several individuals in the area, but none were able to provide an exact area of where the shots had been fired. However, officers did locate an apartment with a rear door that appeared to have been forcibly entered, but the apartment was unoccupied at that time.

Officers continued to search the area for more than an hour and began checking a wooded area to the west of the apartment buildings.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., an officer located a man lying in the heavily wooded area. The man was determined to be deceased and had died of apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was later identified as a 20-year-old Bloomington man. An autopsy was conducted on the victim later in the day.

The Monroe County Coroner confirmed the findings of the preliminary autopsy results with the cause of death being listed as multiple gunshot wounds. However, toxicology results are still pending.

Investigators did later locate and speak with the individual who resides at the apartment that had been found with the rear door ajar. It was reported that two unknown males wearing face-coverings had kicked in the rear door of the apartment and chased the victim out the front door just prior to the shooting.

At this time, little is known about the homicide and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Wade Berry at 812-339-4477.

No further information is available for release at this time.
