Disorderly bar patron arrested after attacking bar employees

BEDFORD – Early Saturday morning Bedford Police officers were called to Downtown at Dacar’s after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an employee had a woman in a “chokehold”.

When police arrived at 12:48 a.m. at 1005 16th Street they were flagged down by multiple individuals who directed them towards a female walking north toward the parking lot west of the building.

Diovionne Banks

The witnesses and victims told officers the woman identified as 23-year-old Diovionne Banks was the aggressor.

One male victim told officers Banks had punched him in the face and pulled his hair.

Officers stopped Banks. Police say she smelled of alcohol and was loud, confrontational and combative.

When an officer attempted to get Bank’s side of the story, she reacted by placing her hands in the officer’s face and telling him he “needed to watch the tapes”. Officers told Banks to sit down, calm down, and give the officer her side of the story.  She would not cooperate, continued to be argumentative and kept yelling to  “watch the tapes”.

Banks finally told the officers there was a fight, they wanted her to leave and she was removed from the bar.  She continued to insist that officers needed to “watch the tape”.

While officers were speaking with Banks continued to be combative with an abrasive attitude when the officers tried to speak with her. Eventually, Officers detained Banks.

Officers then spoke to four victims.

One security employee said Banks started a fight with another patron and he escorted her from the establishment. She hit him in the face, pulled his hair, and bit him.

Banks also scratched another male employee on the arm causing it to bleed when he assisted with her removal from the bar.

Banks grabbed a third employee, placed her hands on the woman’s face, and pushed her.

After gathering the statements and with Banks registering 0.116 on a breathalyzer, she was arrested and transported to jail. Banks was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, three counts of battery, and battery causing bodily injury.
