Stars settle for fourth in HHC tourney

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence settled for fourth place in the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament, suffering a 5-0 loss to Floyd Central in the consolation round Friday afternoon on the BNL courts.

The Stars (11-6) had no answers for the Floyd firepower.

“We got beat badly by a really good team,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said.

In singles, Sophia Wood topped BNL’s Rachel Kidd 6-0, 6-2 at No.1, Abby Slaughter clipped Nadia Anderson 6-3, 6-3 at No.2, and Ella Leither swept past Italy Lewis 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Libby Banet and Millie Meyhier decked Bella Stigall and Mallory Pride 6-1, 6-0 at No.1. Zoe Vanderheet and Jillian Branham rallied past Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge 7-5, 6-4 at No.2.

BNL will host Brown County and celebrate Senior Night on Monday. The Stars will also learn their postseason fate when the IHSAA announces the sectional draw on Monday.
