NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence won seven events while winning the Big Blue Relays during girls high school track action on Thursday.
The Stars totaled 126 points to edge Jennings County (95), Madison (90) and Brownstown (87) for the title. In the boys meet, the Panthers scored 144 points to clip BNL (142), Brownstown (77) and Madison (29).
BNL won five individual events and two relays in the girls meet. Alessia Agostini (17.86 in the 100 hurdles), Lindley Steele (12.97 in the 100 meter dash), Autumn Hall (102-2 in the discus), Jillian Webb (16-4 1/2 in the long jump) and Cora Brown (7-6 in the pole vault) earned blue ribbons. The Stars also won the 400 relay (53.23) and 800 relay (1:57.85).
“Great effort all around,” BNL coach Jim Lewis said. “We knew we were solid in some events, but to win a meet like that was awesome for our girls, especially going into the conference and sectional.”
In the boys meet, BNL recorded wins by Noah Carter (15.79 in the 110 high hurdles), Zane Thompson (11.69 in the 100), Frank Decker (9-0 in the pole vault), Coleton Sears (19-3 in the long jump) and Brayden Patterson (5-11 in the high jump).
The Stars also won four relays (400 in 45.19, 800 in 1:35.72, shuttle hurdle in 38.90 and 800 medley in 1:42.03).
“Our sprinters were awesome again tonight,” BNL coach Brett Deckard said. “I tell the boys every night that every place counts. A place here or there, and we win, but we competed hard and did what we could. Jennings is real strong in the distances.”
BNL’s girls will compete in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet on Tuesday.
