Avoca – Marshall Township recreation park to celebrate Arbor Day Thursday, May 5th

AVOCA – The Avoca -Marshall Township Recreation Park is home to a wide variety of different trees. This year the park board is introducing a new tree to the park, the Amber Glow Redwood Tree.

In observance of Arbor Day on April 29th, Marshall Township Trustee Suzi Evans and park board members Ed Franklin, Sam Bond, and Chris Noel will plant the tree on Thursday, May 5th at 5:30 p.m.

This new variety of Redwood is hardy to southern Indiana’s zone 6 and should thrive and grow in the decades to come, adding its beauty and magnificence to Avoca Park for many future generations to enjoy.

As another means to raise funds for the park, the park board will be planting 50 zone 6 Indiana hardy Redwood seeds that will be ready to sell by the end of 2022 into early 2023. Those interested in purchasing one of the trees, or who wish to donate to the park can reach out to the Avoca Parks Department.
