ISP seizes suspected meth, heroin and drug paraphernalia during traffic stop

ELKHART CO. – An early morning traffic stop on April 11, 2022, on Indiana Toll Road resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia by the Indiana State Police.

At approximately 3:46 a.m. Trooper Luis Alvarez stopped a tan 2005 Mercury for a traffic violation as it traveled eastbound on the Indiana Toll Road near the 90-mile marker.  This is approximately 2 miles west of the Elkhart Exit.

During the traffic stop, Alvarez determined that the driver of the Mercury, Amanda Garner, 39 of Elkhart, IN, did not have a valid driver’s license and she was wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Elkhart County.  A female passenger in the Mercury initially gave a false name to Alvarez but was ultimately identified as Cary Beadle, 39 of Elkhart, IN.  Beadle did not have a valid driver’s license and she was also found to have an active warrant out of St. Joseph County.  A male passenger also did not have a valid driver’s license.

With no valid drivers present, the Mercury was impounded. Drug paraphernalia was discovered during an inventory of the Mercury.  A subsequent search revealed approximately 33 grams of suspected methamphetamine, suspected heroin, 10 syringes, and pills.

Garner was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, Driving While Suspended-Prior, and an active warrant.  Garner was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

Beadle was transported to an area hospital after an apparent medical episode requiring Emergency Medical Technicians respond to the scene.  The male passenger was released from the scene.

Beadle was released from the hospital on April 12, 2022, and transported to the Elkhart County Jail.  Beadle was arrested for possession of a narcotic, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a syringe, identity deception as well as for an active warrant out of St. Joseph County.
