Two were arrested after fleeing from police on a scooter

BEDFORD – Two people were arrested after a Bedford Police officer was on patrol and spotted Donavan Hughes and Lydia Wigley on a scooter in the parking lot of Tomcats Pawn. The officer knew both were wanted on outstanding warrants.

The officer attempted to stop the scooter. Hughes proceeded to exit the parking lot and refused to stop and continued to flee west on 30th Street.

The officer pursued Hughes down numerous streets. Hughes then drove the scooter through two yards at 27th and U streets and then through the backside of Arctic Glacier off U Street.

Police say Hughes failed to yield at multiple stop signs and showed a blatant disregard for the safety of other motorists. Donavan entered the Milwaukee Trail at the entrance south of the National Guard Armory off of Sienna Drive.

An officer maintained the pursuit down the Milwaukee Trail, while other officers proceeded to the trail entrance at North Hill Drive.

Hughes laid the scooter down in a creek off of the Milwaukee Trail. Donavan and Wigley fled on foot. Both were detained.

Wigley was injured when Hughes laid down the scooter and was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital and then transported to jail on charges of resisting arrest and a warrant for petition to revoke. Hughes was arrested on two warrants for petition to revoke and two warrants for failure to appear and resisting arrest.
