Arrest made in connection to Thursday Interstate shooting

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Police’s investigation into last Thursday’s shooting on I-70 near Post Road, which left a 21-year-old Grant County woman shot and hospitalized, has resulted in the arrest of an Indianapolis man alleged to have perpetrated the crime.

According to Detective Brandon Alberts, the information provided by witnesses and follow-up investigation identified 19-year-old Darius D. Beard as the suspect in Thursday’s interstate shooting. Friday afternoon, Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle Beard was driving but he fled before finally being stopped and taken into custody in the area of 38th Street and Drexel Avenue.

Beard was incarcerated in the Marion County Adult Detention Center on charges of aggravated battery, a level 3 felony, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a level 6 felony, and resisting law enforcement causing injury, a level 6 felony.

Detective Alberts was quick to praise the witnesses who came forward to provide information which helped lead to this arrest. 

“Thanks to multiple witnesses who dialed 911 and reported the events they observed, this individual was taken into custody very quickly”, said Alberts. “Assistance from the public in reporting these serious incidents and willing to provide law enforcement with important information is imperative to our investigations. We truly appreciate the public’s assistance, cooperation, and communication in this case which led to a prompt outcome in this shooting investigation. We encourage anyone with information on any crime they witness to call law enforcement or Crime Stoppers”, he continued.

All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. The charges mentioned are merely accusations, actual charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
