Through a grant provided by the Psi Iota Xi sorority of Bloomington, the Autism Society of Indiana purchased over 200 picture communication boards to be placed in the vehicles of all first responders and law enforcement officers in Monroe County.

The communication boards will give police, firefighters, and EMS providers a way to communicate with a person who may be nonverbal, have autism, or be experiencing other factors that make verbal communication difficult during an emergency.

The Autism Society of Indiana recognized the need for this type of assistance, and has written a national grant to obtain communication boards for every law enforcement and first responder agency in Indiana.
