Man arrested after police find drugs in his pocket

BEDFORD – On Tuesday, March 1, at 2:49 p.m. a Bedford Police Officer was on patrol when he observed a black Camry traveling north on Lincoln Avenue with no plate on the vehicle.

The officer stopped the vehicle near the 1200 block of 7th Street.

During the stop, the officer learned the female driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license but her backseat passenger 45-year-old Marty Thomas, of Bloomington, did.

The officer had the three occupants step out of the vehicle and pat down all three for safety reasons. In Thomas’ pocket, the officer found a cut straw that contained crystal meth residue.

Thomas said the straw was not his because the pants he was wearing were not his. He then changed his story and said the pants were his but he didn’t know where the straw had come from. He then admitted he had used meth about three to four days ago.

Thomas was then detained on charges of possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for driving the vehicle without a valid license and for the license plate violation.
