BNL’s Baker advances to consolation final

BNL’s John Allen, Trey Kimbley, Garrett Henson, Cole Baker and Alexander Swenson competed in the IHSAA state finals on Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS – Bedford North Lawrence junior Cole Baker qualified for the IHSAA state consolation during the preliminary races at IUPUI on Friday night.

Baker posted a sizzling time of 21.26 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, just under his seed time of 21.37, to finish 10th in the field fo 32 competitors. The top eight advanced to the state championship race, while places 9-16 qualified for the consolation event at the Natatorium on Saturday.

The rest of the Stars failed to advance in their respective events.

BNL’s 200 medley relay team of Baker, Garrett Henson, Alexander Swenson and John Allen finished 28th in 1:39.42.

Baker finished 25th in the 100 backstroke in 53.37, and Swenson cruised home in 31st in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.76. Zionsville’s Will Modglin broke the state record in the 200 IM in 1:44.10.

BNL’s 400 free relay team of Trey Kimbley, Swenson, Baker and Allen was 22nd in 3:16.70.

The finals and consolations in each event will begin at 1 p.m.
