Duke Energy provides $10,000 for High School Equivalency 3-Day Bootcamps

BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council’s Workforce Coalition (WF Coalition) is the recipient of a $10,000 Duke Energy sponsorship for their newest initiative to fill employer positions with qualified candidates, increase post-secondary attainment, and improve the quality of life for those Lawrence County residents that do not have a High School diploma.

The WF Coalition will continue their longstanding partnership with the Department of Workforce Development to implement a new 3-Day Bootcamp program where Lawrence County residents may obtain their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma for FREE in just a few days.

Joe Timbrook

“Participants in the traditional classes were always asking if there was a way to shorten the amount of time to obtain their HSE and I recently discovered that Monroe County Community School Corporation was holding fast-paced HSE Bootcamps,” said Joe Timbrook, Director of Career Development, at the WF Coalition. “I asked myself why couldn’t we do that here in Lawrence County.”

After researching the idea further, the LCEGC’s WF Coalition has teamed with Duke Energy to sponsor this new and exciting initiative that draws upon the HSE program’s past successes.

The process begins on March 10, 2022, with a qualifying pre-test in reading writing, math, science, and social studies. Participants that pass the pre-test will be admitted into the 3-day Bootcamp to be held March 24-26, 2022. Registrations are due March 8, 2022, and those interested may sign up today at www.GetMyHSE.org and choose “3-Day Bootcamp” as the class option.

“By adapting to the needs of the community and in partnership with community organizations such as the school systems, justice departments, municipal agencies, businesses, substance abuse recovery centers and more, the program will continue to thrive and provide residents with multiple avenues to achieve a higher level of
education,” Timbrook added.
