North Lawrence Community School board stayed busy during Feb. 22 meeting

BEDFORD – During the North Lawrence Community School Board meeting, the board discussed the consolidation of Oolitic Middle School and addressed the new mask policy among other items.

Community member Noah Browning questioned the board on the updated mask policy and why the board does not have an open vote on the matter. Dr. Kamal Girgis explained their decision to follow the current CDC guidelines and the Indiana Department of Health but did not explain the reason the board did not host an open vote on the policy.

The motion to consolidate Oolitic Middle School died on the floor as the board took no action on the recommendation and did not pass a motion to table it. Therefore, no future date for a vote has been determined at this time, and the board will continue to look into the issue moving forward.

Community member Scott King told the board members that there is no clear plan to move the students to Bedford Middle School before the consolidation is implemented, therefore it should be a 7-0 vote. The board failed to receive a motion and will continue to discuss the plans further.
