Mitchell Community Schools approve sale of corporation owned Huron properties

MITCHELL – During the Mitchell Community Schools Board meeting Monday night, Attorney Greg Pittman provided updates to the sale of the Huron properties owned by the School Corporation.

The board had to first approve the authorization to sell the properties at the average price from the appraisals, while posting a minimum bid amount and a notice to bidders of the price for the parcels during their December 13th meeting.

The two parcels are rather large with one sitting at 48.75 acres while the other is an even 40 acres. and after receiving an average amount to sell each individually.

The two parcels were listed at $180,500 for the 48.75-acre parcel and $150,000 for the 40-acre parcel, with the stipulation that the board could accept the bids, even if only one bid was sent to the board that met the minimum listed price.

The only bid received by the board was from James Carpenter, who placed bids for $181,00 for the 48.75-acre parcel and $151,000 for the 40-acre parcel, a total of $332,000.

The board accepted the bid from Carpenter after having properly posted the sale through the necessary networks and following the steps set by the board for the sale.
