Mooresville Rd. Bypass, Madison Ave. bridges to close for replacement

MARION CO. – Two bridges over I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis are expected to close later this month for demolition and replacement.

The Mooresville Road Bypass bridge is expected to close starting Sunday, Feb. 13 for about three months. The detour will follow Mann Road, Thompson Road, and High School Road.

The Madison Avenue bridge is scheduled to close on or after Sunday, Feb. 20 for just over six months. Its detour will follow Thompson Road, Keystone Avenue, and Hanna Avenue.

Nighttime lane and ramp closures

Bridgework will occur around the clock as weather permits. I-465 traffic should expect nighttime lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Bridge demolition and new beam installation will also require 20-minute traffic stoppages on I-465 and the closure of the I-465 eastbound on-ramps below as needed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

  1. The S.R. 67/Kentucky Avenue on-ramp to I-465 eastbound
  2. The northbound and southbound U.S. 31/East Street on-ramps to I-465 eastbound

Future improvements

The Mann Road and Carson Avenue bridges over I-465 are expected to close later this year for replacement. The bridge replacements are occurring in phases to minimize traffic impacts.

Work will begin in 2023 to add lanes to I-465 between I-70 and I-65 on the southwest side of Indianapolis. The new bridges will provide more height and width for the I-465 traffic underneath.
