Ohio man arrested after attempting to defraud local credit union

CLARKSVILLE – Indiana State Police (ISP) Detectives arrested a Columbus, Ohio man late Tuesday morning after he attempted to defraud a financial institution of $20,000.

On Monday, January 24th, the One Vision Credit Union in Clarksville, contacted Detective First Sergeant Bill Wibbels of the Sellersburg Post about possible fraud involving a man who only recently joined the credit union. Working alongside and cooperatively with credit union officials, Detective Wibbels immediately began a fraud investigation.  Through the investigation, Detective Wibbels determined the new member, who was now applying for a $20,000 signature loan, was providing a fake name and fake identification documents in his application process.

On Tuesday morning, the suspected conman returned to the credit union and was subsequently arrested by detectives who were at the credit union continuing the investigation.

The suspect was identified as Kenneth Eugene Burgess, 58, of Columbus, Ohio. Burgess is currently charged with the following three felony counts of forgery, two felony counts of defrauding a financial institution and a felony charge of identity theft.

Kenneth Burgess was transported to the Clark County Jail without incident.
