Oolitic Town Council discuss stormwater project updates and engineering study

OOLITIC – During the Oolitic Town Council special meeting Monday evening, council members discussed the updates to the stormwater project and the official kick-off to the engineering study of the water and wastewater project.

Drew Flamion and Michelle Carrico shared updates to the timeline for the town to select the bids for the stormwater project once the town receives the OCRA grant funds.

The first advertisement for the receiving of bids will go out on February 7th following the completion of the design stage. The next step within releasing the ad is the acceptance of bids.

These bids are to be delivered to Oolitic Town Hall by the 28th of February to discuss during the regular Town Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m. that same day.

During this meeting, a discussion will take place on which bid would work best for the town as a whole in terms of cost-effectiveness and quality of the work.

Flamion also discussed potential ways that the town could save money from the project by adding alternatives in the language of the accepted contract. With the current total cost of the project nearing $670,000, using the most money from the OCRA grant would make the most sense.

This way the town can discuss and determine what alternatives would be most efficient and positive to the town, by also not having to fully commit to certain services.

Flamion then discussed with the council the areas he would like to focus on within the engineering study of the water and wastewater project.

Repairing potential damages that may be caused by the project, replacing curbs on sidewalks, and fixing driveways that have been eroded due to weather were all key points in his discussion.

The council approved the bidding process as well as set up a preliminary meeting for the Stormwater Board for Thursday, January 19th at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the many options the town will have in making the pipe system and water services better for the Town of Oolitic.

Council President Tangie Young and Councilman John Dillon were absent from the special meeting.
