Bedford Police arrest five individuals in connection to robbery

BEDFORD – Following a joint investigation between the Bedford Police Department and ATF’s Columbus Field Division, five individuals are now in custody related to the burglary and theft of firearms from Cosner’s Gun and Knife Shop in Bedford, Indiana.

Detectives received multiple tips during their investigation and received reliable information identifying the three individuals seen in the store video footage.

Search warrants were obtained for several residences within Bedford, which were executed by the Bedford Police Department SWAT Team. Upon searching the residences, multiple firearms were located that were determined to have been stolen from Cosner’s store.

The individuals involved in the burglary were identified as Calvin Levi Johnson, 19, Bedford, and two juvenile males, 15, also from Bedford. Johnson is being held on preliminary charges including Burglary and Theft of a Firearm.

Ian Canfield, 19, Bedford, was also arrested in connection with the burglary and held on preliminary charges including Assisting a Criminal. One juvenile male, 16, Bedford, was also arrested for possession of the stolen firearms.

The Bedford Police Department and ATF’s Columbus Field Division, with the generous assistance of the Indiana State Police and Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, have recovered a majority of the stolen firearms so far. Be reminded that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

In the early hours of January 11, 2022, Bedford Police Officers responded to Cosner’s store for an alarm at the business. When officers arrived, they found the suspects had allegedly entered through the front door and stole around 20 guns before leaving the scene.
