Bloomington Health Foundation supports IU Health Bloomington with the largest gift in the organization’s history

BLOOMINGTON – Today, IU Health Bloomington and Bloomington Health Foundation announced a strategic partnership intended to uplift the health of Bloomington and neighboring communities through an $11 million commitment from the Bloomington Health Foundation.

This contribution represents the legacy of gifts to the Bloomington Health Foundation (formerly Bloomington Hospital Foundation) to benefit IU Health Bloomington and includes a donation of nearly $3.7 million from Bloomington Health Foundation designated to directly benefit the newly constructed hospital on the Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center campus.

“This contribution is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Bloomington Health Foundation to leave a legacy by partnering with IU Health to advance the future of healthcare in our community and region while also honoring our donors’ wishes,” said Michelle Gilchrist president & CEO of the Bloomington Health Foundation.

Following the launch of IU Health Foundation in 2018, Bloomington Health Foundation began to focus on addressing the Bloomington community’s most pressing health needs. An IU Health Foundation office was created in Bloomington to assume all fundraising for IU Health Bloomington and the south-central region – specifically, those communities surrounding IU Health Bedford, IU Health Morgan, and IU Health Paoli hospitals.

“We are grateful for the many donors who have given of their valuable resources over the past 50 years to ensure the continual transformation in the delivery of high-quality health and healthcare in our region. This transfer of funds and gift from the Bloomington Health Foundation help to bring our vision to reality,” said Brian Shockney, president of the IU Health South Central Region.

The IU Health Foundation is the designated fundraiser for IU Health Bloomington. Both IU Health Foundation and Bloomington Health Foundation are focused on improving the health of those who live in Bloomington and neighboring communities. The partnership will help make that goal a reality. The transfer of funds and gifts from Bloomington Health Foundation paves the way for IU Health Foundation to steward valued contributions from donors who intended their gifts to benefit Bloomington Hospital.

With the gift from Bloomington Health Foundation and other funds raised from IU Health Foundation’s All the Difference campaign, a new IU Health Bloomington will provide residents of Bloomington and surrounding counties the advanced care they need and deserve.

IU Health and the Bloomington Health Foundation thank all who have contributed to bringing the region one step closer to a healthier Indiana.
