According to a probable cause affidavit, on November 30, 2021, the school resource officer spoke to Ricke Mason, the Dean of Students for Mitchell Junior High School.

He was concerned over a student who had missed 49 unexcused days of school and 13 excused days, with only 8 days “being officially excused”.  According to school officials, in total, the student had missed 54 days excluding the 8 excused days.

School officials also reported the child was failing all his classes.

School officials spoke to the Setlaks and they advised the school they were going to withdraw their son and enroll him in Indiana Connections Academy, but have yet to do that.

The information was forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for their arrests.
