Martin County Sheriff’s deputies will receive raises thanks to a donation

SHOALS – Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies will see a $5,000 increase in pay thanks to the contribution by Jason Loughmiller and his wife.

During the Martin County Council meeting, Sheriff Travis Roush requested a raise for his deputies saying his deputies are one of the lowest paid in the state. Deputies currently make $15.42 an hour.

Because of the low pay after an officer is trained they find employment elsewhere.

The council voted against the pay raise and that was when Jason Loughmiller stepped up and stated he and his wife would personally fund the raises, giving all 10 deputies an extra $5,000 a year. Loughmiller is the owner of Loughmiller Machine Tool & Design in Loogootee.

The council approved the deal pending certain legalities.
