Town of Oolitic preparing for Christmas with Santa event

OOLITIC – During the Town Council Meeting Monday night, council members announced the plans for a Christmas with Santa event set for December 11th.

Main Street in Oolitic will be shut down starting at 3:00 p.m. for the festivities that include horse-drawn covered wagon rides, a petting zoo, visiting with Santa, and activities including making treats for Santa’s reindeer. Hot chocolate, cookies with Santa, and gifts for the kids will take place at the front porch of Town Hall.

The covered wagon rides will begin at 4:00 p.m. and can accommodate up to 26 people per ride around town, and will be decorated with décor. The ride will start at the parking lot on Lafayette Avenue and will then head North before wrapping back around in front of the Fire Station and down South on Hoosier Avenue, before turning in the back alley behind Town Hall and ending back at the parking lot on Lafayette.

Oolitic Hair Company will be set up to host families at the start of the event for children to make treats for all of Santa’s Reindeer and the Post Office will be taking everyone’s letters for Santa.

Santa will then arrive at 5:00 p.m. on one of the wagons and will be set up at the fire station located at 5 Hoosier Avenue and will be there for all to visit and take pictures with.

The tree lighting ceremony will take place at the pine tree located between the Post Office and Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. with hotdogs and hot cider available thanks to the Oolitic Baptist Church.

More than 100 toys have been gathered for the children, with plenty more on the way. More than $600 in cash donations have been collected thus far to go towards additional toy purchases.

Decorations for the event will take place on Friday, December 3rd in anticipation of the event.
