Town of Orleans gearing up for Holiday Season

ORLEANS – The Town of Orleans is gearing up for the holiday season.

“Small Business Saturday” is November 27, 2021. Residents are urged to think local and support the place where they live. A number of hometown merchants and business owners will be participating in the special promotion on Thanksgiving weekend. Participants include Alana Judah Art, Feminine Mystique, Freestyle Salon & Boutique, J & S Sportswear, SpeakEasy Pizza, Barbed Bling Boutique, Flower Cottage, Hometown Scoops, Orleans Flower Shop, and Rustic Graces.  Shoppers visiting those participanting businesses that Saturday will have an opportunity to pick up a special Orleans Small Business Passport, have it stamped, and be entered into a drawing a number of prize giveaways. 

Final touches will be performed for “Christmas on the Square” which returns after a one-year absence on Saturday, December 11 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Come out and participate in his fun family events in the historic town square; There will be a Santa Hat Run/Walk, Nativity with live animals, children’s train ride, Santa Claus, horse and carriage rides, food, live entertainment and more.

The Chamber’s Visitor Center will be open during the Christmas on the Square event. Stop in to warm yourself and say hello. While there pick up a free postcard for Santa. 

Orleans merchants are asked to decorate their storefronts and display windows in holiday style and wherever possible to leave their window displays lit during the evening hours to help make the Dogwood Capital a bit more festive during this Christmas season.

Residents can participate in the annual best-decorated home. Nominations will be accepted at the Chamber office until December 10th. Judging will take place on the evening of Dec 14th. Prizes will be awarded for best overall decorating.

Santa’s Mailbox is back. The town’s special “Santa Mailbox” will be set up in front of the Chamber’s office on the north side of the town square beginning Thanksgiving weekend. Area children can mail their “Postcards for Santa.” Special postcards will be available FREE at a number of Orleans businesses. All cards collected will be forwarded on to the big guy at the North Pole. Selected ones may also appear in The Progress Examiner holiday edition.

The Chamber’s 2021 Ornament Sale is underway. This year’s limited collectible (the 20th in the series) celebrates historic Orleans Bicentennial Park and may be purchased from both Mid-Southern Savings and Town Hall for $12.  If you missed out on getting last year’s ornament there is still some available for $5.  Proceeds from the annual ornament sale benefit the chamber’s many ongoing community improvement projects.
