Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission approves new TIF District

LAWRENCE COUNTY – The Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission held a meeting Friday morning to dissolve the second Lehigh TIF District in Marion Township.

Originally established in 2008 for the purpose of the expansion of Lehigh Hanson Inc. originally planned for 13 years ago, this TIF District has sat empty and unused.

There has been no revenue generated form this TIF District since its inception, and the Commissioners are looking to create a new TIF District in its place.

Dan Wade, President of the Advisory Board for Marion Township Trustees expressed concern over how this would affect their tax revenue and if it would affect their planned addition for a Fire Barn for the Marion Volunteer Fire Department as well as the ability to ensure their Fire Fighters would have the right equipment.

Jeff Quyle Redevelopment Commission President

Commission President Jeff Quyle, shared that with dissolving the previous TIF District would allow it to be placed within Marion Township and would not affect any of their tax revenues and would allow them to proceed with the Fire Barn. A discussion on how the Committee could help with the Fire Barn will be discussed.

The Commission also discussed the update to the Marshall Township TIF District plan to include Broadband at the Lawrence County Fair Grounds from Smithville Fiber.

The plan is to offer Broadband services throughout the fair grounds for members of the community to be able to use. The resolution is waiting on a final estimate From Smithville Fiber before the Committee will make a final decision.

Smithville will be offering a variety of options to look over that will help to determine what option will be accepted and how much it will cost. The estimate is expected to be announced before Thanksgiving 2021.
