Two arrested after K9 alerts police to drugs

BEDFORD – Early Wednesday morning police arrested the driver of the vehicle and one of his passengers after he made an abrupt lane change on 5th Street without using his turn signal.

A Bedford Police officer stopped the driver 30-year-old Matthew Reynolds, of Bedford, near the intersection of 5th street and Bellback Road.  

Lawrence County K9 Dusty alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.

Baylee Lackey

During the search, officers found a black lockbox on the floorboard where 19-year-old Baylee Lackey, of Springville, was sitting. Inside the box, officers located a digital scale, two small metal containers,  a metal spoon containing a small piece of cotton and fentanyl residue, a rubber tourniquet, a small plastic baggie containing meth,  two cut plastic straws, multiple lighters, and two syringes. Also located in a backpack was a syringe containing a clear liquid that was Narcan.

Lackey and Reynolds were arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic drug, possession of meth, and unlawful possession of a syringe.
