259 pounds of marijuana discovered during a traffic stop on a toll road

LAGRANGE CO. – An Indiana State trooper discovered 259 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop yesterday on Indiana Toll Road.

Just after noon on Wednesday, November 3 an ISP trooper stopped a black 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck for a moving violation as it traveled east in a construction zone near mile marker 120 on the Indiana Toll Road.  This is approximately one mile west of the Howe/LaGrange exit.

During the traffic stop, a K9 with the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.  A search of the Chevrolet was conducted and resulted in the discovery of approximately 259 pounds of suspected marijuana.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Carlos Silva Rivas, 28, of White City, OR, and the passenger, Margarito Alvarez, 41, of White City, OR, were both arrested on charges of dealing and possession of marijuana and were detained at the LaGrange County Jail.
