Virtual Big Sit! is Saturday at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area

LINTON – The Big Sit! is an annual tailgate for bird watchers, held across North America and at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area (FWA).

The idea is to sit in a 17-foot diameter circle and identify as many birds as you can in one day. It is an excellent novice bird-watching experience because you can stay in one place, meet other bird watchers, and come and go as you’re comfortable. You can also see a lot of birds during the Big Sit! and no gear is necessary! You can learn more about the Big Sit! by visiting www.thebigsit.org.

This year, Friends of Goose Pond and the Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife are hosting a virtual Big Sit! Throughout the day, you can watch as roving reporters share what they are seeing at various locations at Goose Pond FWA and learn what birds visit Goose Pond FWA and how to identify them. We’ll also share what makes Goose Pond FWA such a special place for wildlife and people. Some sessions will be a Facebook Live-streamed – check out the schedule to learn more.

How can I participate?

You can participate by registering to join us at Goose Pond FWA via Zoom and we’ll bring you birds from 7:55 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 11.
