INDIANA – Thursday, President Biden announced his administration’s intent to use the US Department of Labor to force compliance with a vaccine mandate for healthcare facilities and any business with 100 or more employees. This mandate is unconstitutional, unlawful, and an assault on the rights of the American people to make their own private medical decisions without fear of reprisal from an invasive government.
At a press conference on December 4th, 2020, in response to a question on vaccines, Biden said, “No — I don’t think it should be mandatory. I wouldn’t demand it to be mandatory.”
Now, less than a year later, Biden is forcing everyone who works at a healthcare facility to be vaccinated, without exception. He is forcing businesses with 100 or more employees to either mandate 100% vaccine compliance, require weekly testing of the unvaccinated, or lay off workers to be under the 100 person threshold. This mandate affects nearly 80 million private-sector workers and places the burden and costs of verification and testing on the employers who face steep, business-killing, fines for any violations.
Interestingly, the United States Postal Service, and its nearly 700,000 employees, are exempt from this mandate. This seems odd given the amount of daily person-to-person interactions postal carriers have with the general public.
“Honestly, it’s not that surprising that the government went from ‘14 days to flatten the curve’ to ‘3 jabs to keep your job’ so quickly. What should be surprising is that our Republican Governor and the Republican supermajority in the legislature have been complicit with this continued assault on the rights of Hoosiers,” said Evan McMahon, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Indiana.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb (R), has extended his Emergency Order 19 times since it was first issued on March 6, 2020, forced countless local businesses to close or restrict operations and uses the state health department to push local mask mandates.
The Libertarian Party of Indiana calls on the legislature to quickly reject compliance with and to nullify this unconstitutional mandate from President Biden and to immediately revoke Governor Holcomb’s emergency order.
