Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County taken aback by community giving

BEDFORD – The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County raised more than $35,000 during their online auction.

“Even though we had a couple of hiccups in the timing and had to adjust from in-person to online in a short time frame, our community came forward making our event a huge success for our kids,” said Frank Decker from Chief Professional Officer. “To give some perspective on the magnitude of the giving hearts within our community, two of the playhouses were purchased by anonymous donors which in return donated them to others who could use such a grand gesture.”

One playhouse was purchased and donated to a special little girl Harbor Webb, who is battling cancer. Another anonymous donor purchased the Bedford Fire Department playhouse and donated it to Becky’s Place. The facility is remodeling its playground and the playhouse will make a great addition.

“Please think about our community’s ability to provide for the kids of our community, we had local contractors donate material and labor to build playhouses, furniture, and a lemonade stand,” said Decker. “Local businesses and community members donated various items and building materials. Firefighters donated their time and building expertise. We also had another community member, a precious little girl, Carissa Matlock, sell lemonade all day the Saturday before the auction and donate her proceeds of $240.32 and her lemonade stand to the auction.”

Community members then came forward and gave from their hearts by bidding on those items or contributed by makeing much-needed donations.

“They did this all for the good of our club kids and other children in the community,” Decker added. “I am not sure how we do more “Community Good” in one event than how this one turned out. Thank you, Bedford and Lawrence County, for being such great advocates for our children”

The Club would like to thank Weavers Wrecker Service & Garage for their willingness to deliver all three playhouses at no cost. This donation was a great releif to the club.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County staff and board members would also like to thank all those that rallied together to support the future of our community youth.
